2016 Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP)
EIRC members Zongze, Hiep, Zhengyu, Boya and Prof. Cao participated the 2016 IEEE Annual Conference on Electrical Insulation and Dielectric Phenomena (CEIDP) in Toronto, Canada. Graduate student Zongze Li gave a nice oral presentation on the topic of prebreakdown conduction while other members presented their most recent work in posters over a broad range of topics including electrical properties of liquid-solid interface for wet-mate DC connector used in subsea Oil & Gas electrification and nanostructured dielectric materials for pulsed power energy storage.

Grants & Funding Awards

Dr. Cao’s research on Electric Propulsion Insulation for ONR has received additional funding of $197,963 to bring the total grant to $280,155 through May 15, 2017. This project is conducted in collaboration with Prof. Ali Bazzi of ECE.
Dr. Cao received a Defense University Research Instrumentation Program (DURIP) award of $98,077 from ONR to develop “Laser Induced Pulse Pressure for Advanced Dielectric Research for Pulsed Power and Electric Propulsion” through July 14, 2017.
Dr. Cao received an award of $25,000 from Army Research Lab to develop Nanocoating for High Energy Density Capacitor Films through Dec. 22, 2016. This seed project will be conducted in collaboration with Prof. Luyi Sun.

Dr. Cao, Dr. Sotzing and Dr. Ramprasad (PI) have received a funding award of $1,050,000 from Navy & Marine Corp S&T to conduct research on Rational Design of Polymer Dielectrics via Synergistic Computations, Synthesis and Characterization through Dec. 31, 2018.
